Examination in Public - 4 to 6 March 2008

The Regional Assembly, as Planning Body, is working with Local Authorities across the region to identify the additional pitch provision required for Gypsies and Travellers.

The Examination in Public (EiP) into the provision of additional pitches for Gypsies and Travellers in the South West took place on 4 to 6 March 2008 in Exeter.

An Independent Panel and invited participants tested the soundness of the proposed policy for additional pitch requirements to 2011.  The EiP also provided an opportunity to have a structured discussion on issues arising from the proposed policy.

Further information for the media and public is available by clicking here.

The independent Panel, appointed by the Secretary of State, consists of Mr Chris Offord BA MRTPI (Panel Chair) and Mr Peter Burley, MA BPHIL DIPTP MLI MRTPI (Panel Inspector). The Panel Secretary is Barbara Bay.

The Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (University of Birmingham) and the Salford Housing and Urban Studies Unit (University of Salford) have been commissioned by the South West Regional Assembly to benchmark Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessments (GTAAs) produced by seven groups of Authorities in the South West.
