Developing the Integrated Regional Strategy

Context for Just Connect!

The 2002 Regional Governance White Paper, "Your Region, Your Choice" stresses the need for better integration between regional strategies and more co-ordinated working between regional organisations.

The South West Regional Assembly agreed that the preparation of an Integrated Regional Strategy for the South West, in providing an agreed set of broad objectives and priorities for the region, would be one important mechanism by which better integrated working in the region can be encouraged in the future.

Following extensive consultations and development the Integrated Regional Strategy was published in November 2007.

Since the publication of Just Connect! the Assembly and partners has been implementing the Integrated Regional Strategy. For more information on what has been achieved so far, please go to our external site www.justconnect-sw.co.uk

Just Connect! aims to deliver a long term vision for the South West, as set out in the Sustainability Shaper (Regional Sustainable Development Framework).  For further information see www.swrsdf.org.uk.

Overall member responsibility for development of Just Connect! has been with the Regional Futures Group. Assembly members within this group take the lead in ensuring that the work of the Regional Assembly, and its partner organisations, fully reflect the aims of the region as set out in the Integrated Regional Strategy.

The Regional Futures Group is supported by a multi-agency IRS Working Group consisting of officers from supporting regional organisations, Organisations signed up to the IRS include all the region's major organisations, including:

  • South West Regional Development Agency (RDA)
  • Government Office South West (GOSW)
  • Environment Agency
  • South West Health Authority
  • Culture South West
