What was the South West Regional Assembly and what did it achieve?

The South West Regional Assembly was set up as a partnership of councillors from all local authorities in the region and representatives of various sectors with a role in the region's economic, social and environmental well-being.

The south west region covers an area of 23,829 square kilometres and contains a population of over five million, about 10% of the England total and similar in total to Scotland.
